Evans Chou Reflects on the 2015 Christmas Concert
Update on Sunday, 14 February 2016
Evans Chou recently offered an insightful evaluation of the 2015 Christmas concert during an interview. The event, which took place on 24 December 2015, was a joyful and meaningful gathering that brought holiday cheer to attendees. In his reflection, Chou discussed the planning process, the challenges faced, and the overall success of the performance.
A Year in the Making
Chou revealed that the planning for the concert began early in the year, driven by his enthusiasm for organising a memorable Christmas event. “We started around the beginning of the year because I was really interested,” Chou said. Preparation spanned nearly twelve months, involving a range of tasks such as selecting songs, coordinating performers, and recording background music. He also sought advice from his violin teacher, Mr. Eduardo Zuber, to ensure the musical quality of the event.
Challenges Along the Way
The road to the concert was not without its difficulties. Promoting the event, particularly within his school and church, was a major challenge. “It was tiring,” Chou admitted. “We had to promote it constantly, and at times, it became a bit overwhelming.” Coordinating with various performers, including guitarists and singers, added another layer of complexity to the preparations, especially as the performance date approached in December.
Despite these obstacles, Chou remained focused and managed to bring everything together just in time for the event. He expressed gratitude to the many people who assisted him throughout the process, including friends like Simon Ha, Isabella Tsui and Chris and Sasa Chan, who played pivotal roles in ensuring the concert's success.
The Day of the Concert
By the time the concert day arrived, Chou felt surprisingly calm. Years of performing experience helped him stay composed, even with friends and family present in the audience. “I wasn’t too nervous,” he said, though he did feel a bit anxious about how the performance would be received.
The concert featured two separate performances rather than one long event, a decision that allowed for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for both performers and the audience. Chou fondly recalled moments between the performances when the atmosphere became lighthearted, with jokes and laughter shared among the cast. “It was fun and less tiring,” he remarked, appreciating the opportunity to connect with the audience during the breaks.
Meeting the Event’s Goals
When asked about the primary goal of the concert, Chou explained that the objective was to spread joy and celebrate the holiday season. Although some adjustments had to be made—such as changing a few songs that didn’t match the festive shopping atmosphere—the event was widely regarded as a success. “People said the music was great, and everyone was happy,” Chou noted. These positive responses reassured him that the concert had achieved its purpose.
Looking Ahead
As Chou reflected on the 2015 concert, he expressed a desire to continue organising Christmas events in the future. “I hope we can keep doing this, sharing the Christmas spirit and making people happy every year,” he said. With a successful concert behind him and a clear vision for future events, Evans Chou remains committed to using his talents to bring joy to others through music and performance.
The 2015 Christmas concert may have been challenging to organise, but it ultimately proved to be a rewarding experience, leaving a lasting impression on both the audience and the performers involved.
